The Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre (CMCB) at Diva Airoli in Navi Mumbai will soon have the country’s first museum dedicated to marine mammals and will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore.
For the development of the Museum for Giant of the Seas, the proposed structure during the development is aimed at exhibiting giants of the seas such as whales, dolphins, turtles, sharks etc. through the display of skeleton, pictures, and background information.
The state mangrove cell is currently preparing the design of the 5-acre complex, of which 2 acres will be for the museum.
There will also be a kilometre-long boardwalk through mangrove forests in the Thane creek flamingo sanctuary, interactive displays on marine biodiversity along Maharashtra’s coast, a watchtower for bird enthusiasts from where the expanse of mangrove cover can be seen, and parking space for visitors.
Mumbai Mangrove Conservation Unit (MMCU) has floated a tender for the appointment of a Project Management Consultant, who would be involved in undertaking assignments to support MMCU’s s efforts in the development of the Complete master plan.
